HackeoUrbano : turn a data base into useful solution for everybody.
CDMX Mapaton was completed in February 2016 at CDMX (read article: http://urbanovacion.com/portfolio-items/closing-ceremony-of-the-first-mapaton-in-cdmx/). This event allowed the creation of a data base full of useful data about journeys of peseros, informal buses of CDMX.
Building on that success, the collective PIDES has decided to go further to turn this tremendous wealth of data into useful information for everybody; it has organized a HackeoUrbano or Hackhaton!
HackeoUrbano was organized in the same time than the worldwide open-data day and received the support of Laboratorio para la Ciudad CDMX and the British embassy.
For 36 hours, 84 hackers, programmers, developers, designers (or students) outdid themselves! They had as mentors members of Google Mexico and Dev.F.
Their objective: to create technological solutions to improve the daily mobility of CDMX’s inhabitants! Pendant 36 heures, 84 hackers, des programmeurs, concepteurs, designers (ou étudiants), se sont dépassés ! Ils avaient comme mentors des membres de Google Mexico et Dev.F.
3 projects stood out:
- Ninjas Ruleteros (3ème price): a playful app to promote the use of public transports.
- Urban-X (2ème price): allow users to access in real time to information about public transport (example : timeschedule of a bus at a station).
- Ruta 0 (1er Price): this solution developed by Ruta 0 address people who don’t have Smartphone. With a simple SMS, they know how to move from a point A to a point B. This functionality is automatic and doesn’t require human interaction. The principle is simple; the user sends a text to a phone number with: [ORIGIN], [DESTINATION] and the server will reply automatically by TEXT with the instruction to reach his destination by using public transport. Ruta 0 got a sponsorship and is now incubated by PIDES and Dev.F! Stay tuned as this technology could bring a lot in developing countries where everyone doesn’t own a Smartphone and doesn’t have access to internet easily!
